Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 28, 2026
This policy describes what data Dad Finance (dadfinance.ca) collects, why, and what your rights are. Plain English first, with the legalese on request.
The short version
- Google Analytics 4 is the only tracker. It collects anonymized page-view data so we can see which content is useful.
- No account, no login — there's nothing to log into. We only collect personal info if you fill out the contact form (optional name + email so we can reply) or join the email list (just your email address, opt-in, unsubscribe anytime).
- No personal financial data is sent anywhere. All backtest math runs in your browser. Inputs you type into the tracker (capital, allocation, etc.) never leave your device.
- Your inputs are not saved. Reload the page and they're gone.
- No advertising or behavioural retargeting.
What we collect via Google Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics 4 (Measurement ID: G-MJXD6FETK1) to understand traffic patterns. GA4 collects:
- Pages you visit and how long you spend on each
- Approximate geographic location (city/region, not street address)
- Browser, device type, and operating system
- Referring site (e.g., if you arrived from Google or Reddit)
- An anonymized client identifier (a randomized cookie ID)
GA4 anonymizes IP addresses by default and does not collect personally identifiable information unless we configure it to (we haven't). You can opt out of GA4 site-wide by installing the official Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
What we don't collect
- Your name, email, address, phone number, or any contact information (unless you voluntarily submit the contact form or sign up for the email list — see "Contact form submissions" and "Email list" below)
- Your financial accounts, balances, transactions, or holdings
- Anything you type into the strategy tracker — those inputs stay in your browser
- Your IP address in identifiable form (GA4 anonymizes)
Cookies
One cookie set: _ga by Google Analytics, for distinguishing unique visitors. It expires after 2 years. You can block cookies entirely in your browser settings without breaking site functionality.
Third-party services
- Render (web hosting) — handles HTTP requests, may keep standard access logs for 30 days. Render's privacy policy.
- Resend (email) — delivers contact-form messages and stores the email-list signups. If you join the list, your email address is stored with Resend. Resend's privacy policy.
- Google Analytics — see Google's privacy policy.
- Yahoo Finance (yfinance) — public price data is fetched server-side. No user information is sent.
- Google Fonts & jsDelivr & cdnjs — CSS / JS / icon fonts loaded from these CDNs. These services may log your IP per their own policies.
Affiliate links
Some outbound links may be affiliate links (currently no active programs — disclosed when added). When you click an affiliate link, the destination site may set its own cookies and track the referral. Dad Finance does not receive any personal information from the destination site as part of the referral.
Contact form submissions
If you fill out the contact form, the message you send (and the name + email address you optionally provide so we can reply) are stored on the server. We use this only to read your message and reply if you've given us a reply address. We don't add you to the email list or share your details with anyone.
Email list
If you enter your email in the signup form on the home page, we add it to our email list so we can notify you when a new backtest or post goes live. This is opt-in — we only add addresses that are submitted through that form, and we store just your email address and the date you signed up.
The list is stored with Resend, our email provider (see "Third-party services" above) — not in a spreadsheet or anywhere we'd accidentally leak it. Every email we send includes a one-click unsubscribe link that takes effect immediately; you can also ask us to remove you via the contact form. We don't sell, rent, or share the list, and we only email you about new backtests and long-form posts.
Your rights under Canadian law
Under PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act) you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we hold about you
- Access it and request corrections
- Withdraw consent to its collection or use
- Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada
Since we collect very little personal information (anonymized analytics, plus your email address only if you contact us or join the email list), most of these rights apply narrowly — but they fully apply to any email address you've given us.
CASL (Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation) governs commercial electronic messages. If you sign up for the email list, you're giving express consent to receive update emails from us — and every message includes a one-click unsubscribe link that takes effect immediately. We only email you about new backtests and posts, and we never buy, sell, or rent email addresses.
Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top. Substantive changes will be highlighted on the home page for at least 30 days.
